چکیده

The hydrogen ion concentration of the intestinal contents has received considerable attention during the past few years in regard to abnormalities of inorganic metabolism. It has been shown that the pH of the medium probably has an important influence on the absorption of calcium, phosphorus, and possibly iron and magnesium (1, 2, 3). The studies reported in this paper were undertaken to determine whether a predigested beefsteak meal had sufficient buffer quality, when fed at widely divergent hydrogen ion concentrations, to serve satisfactorily as a means of altering experimentally the pH of the upper intestinal tract of man. A preliminary report has been published (4) on the effect of ingested iron on blood formation as influenced by feeding simultaneously predigested beefsteak at one or another pH. In order to determine how far the method was capable of altering the reaction of the upper gastro-intestinal tract, fractional duodenal and gastric analyses were made on five patients after they were fed by stomach tube a predigested beefsteak meal as an acid mixture and after they were given on a subsequent day this food as an alkaline mixture. In three of the patients before the beefsteak was fed, achylia gastrica was demonstrated after the use of histamine, whereas the other two patients showed a normal amount of free and combined hydrochloric acid in a fractional gastric analysis following the administration of an alcohol test meal.

Identification of bovine, ovine and caprine pure and binary mixtures of raw and heat processed meats using species specific size markers targeting mitochondrial genome

A specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was applied for identification of bovine (Bos taurus), ovine (Ovis aries) and caprine (Capra hircus) pure and binary mixtures of raw and heat-processed meats. These meats are used in food industry products and/or for direct consumption of consumers. The mitochondrial DNA was amplified as a template in a PCR reaction by use of specific primers re...

Comparative study on some biochemical characteristics of surimi from common carp and silver carp and proteins recovered using an acid-alkaline process

Some biochemical characteristics of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and silver carp (Hypophtalmichthys moltrix) surimi prepared by a conventional washing method and protein isolated using alkaline-acid-aided processes were investigated. Solubility of protein in silver carp and common carp were found to be highest by using the conventional washing method. Decreases in myoglobin and lipid contents ...

A Thermodynamic Study on Nano-graphene Interaction with the Amino acid Phenylalanine in Acidic and Alkaline conditions at different temperatures

The project is comparing two types of calculation derived graphene. Which one of these carbon graphene linked to the phenylalanine amino acid from the acidic site (-COOH) and another from the base site (-NH2). For this purpose, at first the material contained in the both sides of reaction were geometrically optimized, then the calculation of the thermodynamic parameters performed on ...

Electrochemical Synthesis of 5-Aminosalicylic Acid from 5- Nitrosalicylic Acid in Alkaline Media

5-Aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) is currently prepared by electrochemical reduction of 5-nitrosalicylic acid (5-NSA) in acidic media. In this work, electrolytic reduction of 5-NSA in alkaline media is presented. Reactionconditions and parameters such as anode and cathode electrodes, electrolyte type, reaction time, temperature, current, and the pH for isolation of product are investigated. The yiel...
